The Grand Mariner Residential Resort, Gold Coast’s tallest building from 1992-2002, is a 42 storey luxury apartment complex located in idyllic “Paradise Waters”, Queensland.
The building operates 2 x 75kW condensed water pumps which drive the air conditioning system for floors 21-42, occupying more than 200 apartments.
The original energy demand for Pump No. 1 was some 67kW/hr as a continuous load. After the installation and commissioning of FW’s Intelligent Inverter System, this load has been reduced to some 23kW/hr to adequately service the air conditioning requirements, equating to an approximate saving of 65%.
Pump 1 – Original Consumption: 67kW
Per annum: 586,920 kWh
Energy Cost @ 10.5 cents per kWh: $61,626.60
Pump 1 Post FW Installation: 23kW
Per annum: 201,480 kWh
Energy Cost @ 10.5 cents per kWh: $21,155.40
Total Savings per annum: $40, 470.80
The energy savings for Pump 1 will vary slightly depending on demand during hotter and cooler months. Notwithstanding the weather condition, the capital payback (ROI) period on the pump motor controller was achieved some 6 to 7 months after installation. With escalations in energy and water tariffs occurring every 12 months, the total energy and financial savings will increase signifcantly.
